About This Tour

If you would like to experience something truly unique and only available in Rotorua, New Zealand, let us guide you on an unforgettable journey through a geothermal wonderland while enjoying the natural beauty of the region.

New Zealand is a geothermally and tectonically active country, creating some of the most dramatic natural landscapes in the world. As you wander past erupting geysers, bubbling mud pools, and steaming thermal springs, you will experience this dramatic landscape firsthand. Before exploring the geothermal valley, we can stop at a local Kiwifruit Experience and orchard, where you will see, touch, and taste locally grown kiwifruit products and learn about one of the region’s largest industries.

Your private tour is fully customizable. The itinerary below is a suggested plan and can be adjusted based on your interests, time, and pace.

The tour typically begins at the Port of Tauranga, where our guide will collect you directly from your ship. If you are not arriving by cruise ship, we can arrange an alternative pickup location to suit you. Throughout the day, your guide will provide informative commentary on points of interest.

A suggested first stop is Mount Maunganui Main Beach, with approximately 10 minutes to enjoy one of New Zealand’s most beautiful beaches. Morning photos here are highly recommended.

Next, you may enjoy a fully guided tour of a kiwifruit orchard in a specially designed vehicle, where you can taste different varieties of kiwifruit and kiwifruit wines. From there, we drive through scenic pine forests and stunning landscapes toward Rotorua.

Another optional stop is Okere Falls Track, about 21 km from Rotorua, near Trout Pool Road off State Highway 33. Here you can view the impressive Kaituna Falls. If we are lucky, we may also see white-water rafters navigating the river flowing from Lake Rotoiti, one of the region’s thirteen lakes.

We can then visit the Redwoods, also known as Whakarewarewa Forest, for approximately 20 minutes. This 55,000-hectare forest features towering Californian redwoods, lush native bush, and exotic trees, and is popular with walkers, hikers, mountain bikers, and horse riders.

Lunch or a coffee stop can be arranged at a pleasant café in Rotorua, depending on your preference.

Another highlight option is Kuirau Park, a geothermal thermal valley located close to the city center. Here you can view bubbling mud pools, hot springs, and other geothermal features, and even soak your feet in the public foot spas.

To complete the experience, we can include a general sightseeing tour of Rotorua, visiting the Lake Rotorua waterfront, the city center, the beautiful Government Gardens, and the famous Polynesian Spa, known for its relaxing and rejuvenating thermal waters.

On the return journey, we take a more scenic route back toward Tauranga. If time permits, we can stop briefly at the Tauranga CBD waterfront before dropping you back at your ship well before departure.
